Double denim works when you pick one rule and stick to it: either the same wash from head to toe, or two shades of blue that are clearly different. In fall it's even easier, because denim jackets, shirts and knitwear layer naturally. Here are six men's and women's looks from the GAS Fall Winter 2026 collection.
The basic rules of denim on denim
- Tone on tone: a jacket and jeans in the same wash make a clean, almost tailored set. It's the safest way to start.
- Clear contrast: a light shirt with dark jeans, or the other way round. Avoid two blues that are similar but not the same, which look like a mistake.
- Something to break it up: a sweater, sweatshirt or T-shirt in a neutral color gives the look room to breathe.
- Leather accessories: a brown or black belt separates the two pieces and makes everything look sharper.
Men's looks
1. The workwear set: Frank Jacket WK and Frank Pant. A jacket and carpenter jeans in the same 12 oz denim, in a rinse wash with contrast stitching. Both hide a camouflage print on the inside. Underneath, a light chambray shirt for contrast.
2. Office denim: Conrad WK and Sadeck WK. A work jacket and chino-cut trousers in the same dark blue stretch denim. Swap the shirt for a chestnut crew-neck sweater, like the Thorn Round in Chestnut Brown, for a softer look.
3. Vintage in a medium wash: Tar Jacket and Tar jeans. A jacket and tapered jeans in 12.4 oz denim, in a medium stone wash with light abrasions. Wear them with a striped shirt underneath and cuffed hems.
A lighter option: the Kant New denim shirt in a light wash with dark Alex jeans. In between seasons, the shirt doubles as a light jacket.
Women's looks
4. The rinse set: Carolina Shacket and Carolina Pant. A slim shirt jacket and wide trousers in the same 11 oz 100% cotton denim, with gold buttons. The trousers have an elasticated waistband in a contrasting fabric that adds a touch of color.
5. Western: Cindy Shirt and Camilia Z. A light stretch denim shirt and high-waisted flares, both in a medium-dark blue. A brown leather belt with a statement buckle defines the waist.
6. Denim that looks like tweed: Nila Jacket with Nila jeans or Nila skirt. The jacket and skirt are made in a denim-tweed blend with contrast trims. With the wide-leg Nila jeans it's a daytime look; with the skirt it becomes more elegant.
A warmer option: the Kia jacket, in denim with polyester padded inserts, over the Carolina trousers. Or the Carolina Shacket with Olivia Chino jeans or the Olivia skirt, in the same rinse wash.
Double denim in winter
