Dramatic season finale as Pedrosa wins with Stoner in 3rd

The 2012 MotoGP World Championship came to an exciting climax today with a fantastic display from the Repsol Honda Team. Dani Pedrosa took victory in the Grand Prix of La Comunidad Valenciana (his sixth at this track) and finishes the season runner-up to champion Jorge Lorenzo by just 18 points but with the most victories of the championship, with a total of seven. 2011 World Champion Casey Stoner completed the final GP of his career and took third place, his tenth podium of the year.

It was one of the most dramatic races of the season. Tricky weather conditions caused confusion at the start with only two riders – Lorenzo and Bradl -starting with slicks tyres on the grid. After the sighting lap, several riders chose to change to slick tyre bikes and start from the pit lane, including Dani who lost his advantage of being on pole position.

With the asphalt drying up very quickly, Dani managed to catch race leader Lorenzo within 12 laps, just before the Yamaha rider crashed out. Dani took the lead with a huge advantage of 23 seconds and remained calm to control the pace until the end, crossing the finish line with gap of 37 seconds and securing Honda’s 19th premier class Constructor’s Title.

Pedrosa takes maiden win in the rain

The Repsol Honda Team returned to full power at the Malaysian Grand Prix with another superb win for Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner’s return to the podium in third position.
The treacherous conditions today in Sepang caused the race to be cancelled with six laps remaining due to heavy tropical rain. Dani was 6.4 seconds ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Casey was chasing him for second place when the red flag was displayed and prevented him progressing any further.

Today, Dani celebrated his first victory in wet conditions, his sixth of the 2012 season and the 44th in his Grand Prix career, equaling Lorenzo and Casey in the ranking of all time winners. It’s the first time that Dani has won three races in a row in the premier class and he is the first Spanish rider ever to win in Malaysia in MotoGP. He has also beaten his record of 13 podiums in a season and continues to chase the title with two races remaining.
Casey returned to the podium – his sixth of the season – in only his second race back after injury forced him to miss three races since Indianapolis. The 2011 World Champion was cautious and therefore unable match the pace of Dani and Jorge in the early laps, but his confidence grew and he began to find his rhythm as the race progressed and was closing the gap to Lorenzo when the race was stopped.

Pedrosa celebrates his birthday with a race win in Aragón, Rea finishes 7th

In an intense battle between the two Championship contenders, it was Repsol Honda‘s Dani Pedrosa who emerged as victor, for the fourth time this season. His team mate, Jonathan Rea, took an impressive 7th in just his second MotoGP outing.
After an early crash in yesterday’s qualifying session, Dani’s team had to completely rebuild the bike to prepare for today’s 23 lap race and the dominant victory was the best present for himself and his crew on his birthday weekend.

Starting from second on the grid, Dani took the lead on the seventh lap, after setting the fastest lap of the race on lap 3 (1’49.109) and running consistently in 1’49′s he pulled away from Lorenzo until crossing the finish line with more than a 6 second gap. Bad luck for Pedrosa, confident 8th place for Rea in Misano

The Repsol Honda team endured a bizarre race in the San Marino Grand Prix this afternoon, with Dani Pedrosa being taken out on the first lap.
A last minute yellow flag displayed due to issues with Karel Abraham’s bike, created confusion on the grid as teams regrouped to prepare for a restart. When Dani’s crew went to remove his front tyre warmer the wheel was locked, causing delay for the Spanish rider. The brake issue was resolved only after the permitted time and for this reason Dani had to start from the back of the grid.

Title contender Dani had a strong start from 21st and had climbed to 8th position in few corners, when Hector Barberá crashed in turn 6 and unfortunately wiped out his fellow countryman.
Dani’s Repsol Honda team-mate Jonathan Rea avoided any such drama and found himself in clear space for much of the race. Jonathan, taking part in his first MotoGP race, took this opportunity to progress his already rapid learning curve on the Honda RC213V. As his confidence grew, he gradually closed in on Nicky Hayden but was unable to catch him. He finished in 8th position and scored his maiden points in the premier class.
